Youths are held over moped crime spree

PO­LICE have been tar­get­ing youths in a crack­down on anti-so­cial be­hav­iour.

Greater Manch­ester Po­lice have made sev­eral ar­rests after re­ceiv­ing com­plaints of youths caus­ing an­noy­ance on scoot­ers, throw­ing stones at taxis and buses in Mid­dle­ton. Five youths were ar­rested as part of an on­go­ing op­er­a­tion fo­cused on mope­drelated crimes while an­other was ar­rested for theft of a moped.

In a post on Face­book, GMP Mid­dle­ton said: “Over the last few days we have run an­other op­er­a­tion tar­get­ing youths caus­ing an­noy­ance in the Town Cen­tre. We have iden­ti­fied some of the group re­spon­si­ble for this and have al­ready taken mem­bers of it home to their par­ents.”

Po­lice have also been re­spond­ing to com­plaints of anti-so­cial be­hav­iour from res­i­dents in Alkring­ton. They said: “Again a plan is in place to tackle this and staff from the Neigh­bour­hood team will be on duty tonight as they have been all week in the area to pro­vide re­as­sur­ance and deal with any is­sues. Although the Mid­dle­ton Neigh­bour­hood team is rel­a­tively small, we do take im­mense pride in the work we do to keep the res­i­dents of Mid­dle­ton safe.”
