Man stabbed in face

A MAN is in hos­pi­tal with se­ri­ous fa­cial in­juries af­ter be­ing stabbed in New Mos­ton.

Po­lice were called to re­ports of the stab­bing that hap­pened on Branston Street shortly be­fore 7.30pm on Mon­day.

Of­fi­cers at­tended and found the vic­tim, aged 18, with a five inch gash to his face. His in­juries are not be­lieved to be life threat­en­ing and en­quiries are on­go­ing to trace those re­spon­si­ble.

Of­fi­cers are keen to speak to two men, one of which is de­scribed as white, ap­prox­i­mately 6ft tall and of stocky build with fair hair and fluffy fa­cial hair. He was wear­ing a cap and a grey zip up hooded top.

The sec­ond man is de­scribed as slightly shorter than the first man and was also wear­ing a hooded top.

De­tec­tive Sergeant James Coles, of GMP’s City of Manch­ester di­vi­sion, said: “This was a very dis­tress­ing in­ci­dent that’s left a teenager in hos­pi­tal with se­ri­ous head in­juries but could eas­ily have had dev­as­tat­ing con­se­quences.

“We have in­creased pa­trols in the area and are car­ry­ing out house-to­house en­quiries and re­view­ing CCTV footage as part of this in­ves­ti­ga­tion so you will see us in the area over the com­ing days.

“I would urge any­one who may have wit­nessed this in­ci­dent, recog­nises the de­scrip­tions of the men or has any in­for­ma­tion that could as­sist with our en­quiries to please get in touch as soon as you can.”
