Se­ri­ous in­juries af­ter fall from roof

A MAN has suf­fered se­ri­ous in­juries af­ter fall­ing off a roof.

Po­lice were forced to close Rochdale Road af­ter they re­ceived re­ports of a man on top of the Vet­s4Pets build­ing, for­merly the Black Bull Inn, and was throw­ing tiles down onto the road.

Of­fi­cers from GMP Mid­dle­ton urged peo­ple not to go near Rochdale Road, near the junc­tion with Now­ell Road in Mid­dle­ton last Satur­day. The warn­ing was posted at around 3.30pm af­ter po­lice and paramedics were called.

One wit­ness, who saw the drama un­fold, said: “My friend and I were walk­ing back from the shop and we saw some­one up on the roof.

“He was throw­ing bricks and tiles off the roof. Some of them landed on the cars be­low. He was run­ning around all over the roof and then ly­ing down near the edge. And then he fell.”

A spokesper­son for Greater Manch­ester Po­lice said: “Shortly be­fore 2.40pm, po­lice were called to Rochdale Road, Mid­dle­ton, to re­ports that a man was on top of a build­ing and throw­ing roof tiles be­low.

“The man fell from the roof a short time later.”

The man sus­tained in­juries to his hip and was taken for treat­ment to Sal­ford Royal Hos­pi­tal.
