MIDDLETON Borough Chrysanthemum Society is set to fill the town’s cricket club with colour as it holds its 103rd annual show.

The society, which formed in 1904, will bring together amateur horticulturalists, entering vases of flowers in a bid to win one of the many trophies up for grabs at the club on Hollin Lane on Friday, October 26, from 5pm to 8pm, then on Saturday, October 27, 11am to 4pm and Sunday, October 28, noon to 4pm.

Rochdale mayor, Coun Mohammed Zaman, and mayoress, Naaira Mohammed, will present the trophies on Sunday at 2pm.

Alan Ormerod, society chairman, said: “The show takes months of planning and hard work, but when you see the final result it makes one feel proud to be associated with such a great bunch of people, their commitment and enthusiasm is very hard to match. It has not been the best of years for our small group, with the loss of two members and others deciding to bow out.”
