Ryan’s keeping one eye on Dale

Middleton Guardian - - SPORT -

RYAN Delaney netted a fine goal for Rochdale at Blackpool on Saturday before heading off to meet up with the Republic of Ireland under 21s squad ahead of their UEFA Under-21s qualifiers this week.

Ireland face Israel at home tomorrow before taking on Germany away next Tuesday.

It means Delaney missing Dale’s Checkatrade Trophy game at Fleetwood – scheduled for last night – and Saturday’s home clash against Doncaster.

But the defender said he’d have one eye on the League One results.

“I’m very proud to be called up for my country and obviously I probably wouldn’t be involved in the squad if I wasn’t playing as much as I am. Keith and the staff have been very good with me, giving me a lot of games , and hopefully I can keep progressing,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to getting among the lads again and hopefully we can push on in the next two games and qualify for the Championships.

“There’s a lot of travelling involved with international football but you just have to make the most of the time and rest when you can.

“I’ll be refreshing Twitter a lot to check the scores and hopefully the lads can get a couple of results.”
