CQC rate care home and surgery ‘good’
AMIDDLETON care home and doctors surgery have been rated ‘good’ by the health and care watchdog.
Inspectors from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) visited Windermere Road Surgery and Little Heaton Care Home in separate inspections to assess how safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led they are.
Both services were rated good in all areas, with the reports praising staff at the doctors surgery for treating patients ‘with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect’, and the care home having improved since its previous inspection.
At Windermere Road Surgery, CQC inspector, Professor Steve Field, reported that patients found the surgery’s appointment system easy to use and were able to access care when they needed it.
He added: “The practice has clear systems to manage risk so that safety incidents were less likely to happen. When incidents did happen, the practice learned from them and improved their processes.
“The practice routinely reviewed the effectiveness and appropriateness of the care it provided.
“There was a focus on continuous learning and improvement at all levels of the organisation.”
Professor Field highlighted areas where the practice should improve, including the management of repeat prescribing of medicines, carrying out a risk assessment and considering its emergency drug and medical items stock.
Little Heaton Care Home had improved since its previous Care Quality Commission in July 2017.
The inspectors were shown proof that a registered manager was being appointed and recruitment procedures were judged as ‘robust’.
The report added: “Staff had been trained in the administration of medicines and had up to date policies and procedures to follow. The home was clean, tidy and homely in character.
“The environment was maintained at a good level.
“We observed there were good interactions between staff and people who used the service.
“People told us staff were kind and caring.
“We saw that the quality of care plans gave staff sufficient information to look after people at the care home and were regularly reviewed.”
