Connor captures National crown

Middleton Guardian - - SPORT -

CONNOR Burton of Middleton Select Boxing Club boxed in the final of the National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs of Great Britain championships at the weekend and emerged victorious. The final was held at the Monastery on Gorton Lane, Manchester.

Burton, the northern champ, boxed against southern champion Lewis Southgate from St Mary’s boxing club in London.

The fight was a very hard fought contest and Connor boxed fantastically in front of the home crowd. He won all three rounds and was awarded the win by unanimous decision.

Both boxers received a standing ovation from the crowd at the end of the contest.

It was a very proud moment for all the coaches at the club because nobody from Middleton has won a senior boxing title since Darren McCarrick over twenty five years ago.
