Rotary’s Santa and sleigh raises £6k for good causes
A ROTARY club raised more than £6,000 for good causes in Middleton by touring with Santa and his sleigh. Each year members of the Rotary Club of Middleton escort Santa around the streets of the town, playing music and spreading festive cheer.
This year the sleigh began its rounds on Monday, December 3, and it continued to tour the town for 12 weekday evenings until Wednesday, December 19, delighting children and parents alike. An extra evening was added to the route this year, as the sleigh was taken around the Rhodes area, after frequent requests from members of the public over the past few years.
The journey made by Santa and his sleigh through Middleton marks the start of the festive period and the run up to Christmas for many people of all ages. However it also serves a useful purpose – raising funds for good and charitable causes in the town.
Through collections this December, Santa and the Rotarians raised a total of £6,078 for local causes.
Keith Trinnaman, who co-ordinated the 2018 project, said: “We have had yet another brilliant Christmas period, even surpassing that of last year.”
