Eur mad if you don’t take Holt

BENNETT BACKS CANARIES PAL FOR ENGLAND

- By JON WEST

ELLIOTT BENNETT reckons England must take Norwich hit-man Grant Holt to the Euros.

Bennett, who bagged the winner in the Canaries’ 2-1 success at Spurs, knows just how impressive Holt has been this term.

Wayne Rooney is the only Englishman who has bagged more than the former Rochdale man’s 13-goal haul – and he’s banned for the first two games of the tournament.

Bennett said: “Fans love to moan after a tournament when England don’t do well and say, ‘you’re just taking the same old players’.

Cracker

“If you are talking about picking players on form, then why not?

“Grant is definitely worth a shot. Other players have had one and he deserves one.”

Talking of shots, Holt had been on at Bennett to take more of them.

And the ex-brighton winger finally took his advice by netting a cracker at White Hart Lane.

He said: “A lot of the lads and the gaffer have been on at me to shoot more in games – particularly Holty.

“He’s been pulling me aside and having little quiet chats with me. It’s all helped.

“He’s a huge influence – not just on the pitch but off it.

“I’m delighted to get a goal and three points at Tottenham.”

It was also his first goal in Norwich colours.

He said: “I have had enough chances, haven’t I? You can’t say it was a matter of time but if you don’t shoot you don’t score.”
