Killer mum to appeal over verdict

...but it’s good news for this Hunt

-

A MOTHER jailed for life for murdering her daughter is appealing against her conviction.

Farzana Ahmed and her husband Iftikhar were found guilty of murdering Shafilea in July.

The 17-year-old went missing from her home in Warrington, Cheshire, in 2003 and her body was found in the River Kent in Cumbria six months later.

The Court of Appeal has now received an appeal application, though the grounds have not been disclosed.

Mr and Mrs Ahmed were each sentenced to serve a minimum of 25 years in prison following a three-month trial at Chester Crown Court.

The prosecution claimed she was murdered because they believed she brought shame on the family with her Western lifestyle. JUST a few months ago Culture Minister Jeremy Hunt was described as a dead man walking.

He was facing a barrage of criticism over his handling of the Sky takeover bid and was accused of cosying up to Rupert Murdoch and News International.

But after London Olympic games he’s been promoted from his post at the Department of Culture Media and Sport to Health Minister.

An insider said: “Jeremy’s the big winner in this reshuffle – now he’s more than just a joke and rhyming slang for, well you know.

“And he’s on to a good thing because, let’s face he can’t be worse than the bloke he replaced.”

Outgoing Minister Andrew Lansley was described by health workers union Unite as ‘a disaster’.

Mr Hunt welcomed his move, saying: “Being allowed to lead the NHS is the biggest privilege of my life.”
