Glen backs Bren despite the worst start for 50 years

GLEN JOHNSON insists Brendan Rodgers has already made a big impact at Liverpool despite the Reds’ grim start to the campaign.

The Anfield club have picked up just one point from their opening three Premier League matches to give them their worst start to a season in 50 years.

Rodgers admits he is gutted not to have added to his attacking options before the transfer deadline – leaving him with just Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini as senior front-men.

And owner John W Henry has even written an open letter to the fans explaining Liverpool’s transfer policy. But 28-year-old Johnson

is adamant that progress has been made and this is only the start for Rodgers.

He said: “Anything new is going to take time to mould together, but the lads are working hard to try to make the success come together.

“Everyone needs to be patient, including the players. We need to make Anfield a place where no team wants to come or can enjoy their football. “We need to get on top of teams from the start.

“It’s clear for everyone to see the way Brendan wants us to play. He did fantastic at Swansea and he’s a fantastic coach.” Rodgers let Jay Spearing, 23, join Bolton on loan for the season but the midfielder insists he can still play at Anfield.

He said: “We had a chat about how we thought the season would go.

“We both decided that it would be good for me to go out and get some experience.”
