I’VE JOINED THE BIGGEST

City new boy has sly dig at Manchester rivals

- By GRAHAM CHASE

“Everybody JAVI GARCIA believes he has joined the “biggest” club in England after tying up his move to Manchester City.

Spain midfielder Garcia, 25, arrived in a £16million deal from Benfica on deadline day as Roberto Mancini moved to replace Nigel de Jong.

The ex-Real Madrid man is Mancini’s biggest signing of the summer and he has risked the wrath of neighbours United by claiming that he is now playing for the greatest club in the country.

City ended a 44-year wait for the title last season and are looking to get beyond the Champions League group phase for the first time.

Garcia said: “Without a doubt I’m at the biggest club in England and one of the biggest in Europe currently.

“So I’m proud but also aware that I’m joining a great side full of top players.

“I’ll have to earn my place in the starting XI because that’s much harder to achieve here than at any other club.”

Garcia admits he was sweating on the move to the Etihad.

The

midfielder

finally wrapped up his move to England on Friday, beating the deadline by hours.

He has revealed that he wondered whether the deal would go through.

“You do see days going by without any agreement being reached,” he added.

Confident

“Then it’s the last day of the transfer window and still nothing has been signed.”

Garcia is confident that City will fire their way beyond the Champions League group phase despite drawing his former team Real Madrid.

He said: “I’ve come here hoping to play big games and, while I know we are a big club and have great players, I’m confident in my chances of playing and I know I have to make use of every opportunity.

“The Champions League group is a tough one but it’s going to be a lot of fun playing against all those teams.

“The Real Madrid game is a great way to start the Champions League campaign but we have the team and the players to compete against any opposition and I’m confident we will come through the group by picking up enough good results.”
