LIVERPOOL v MAN CITY — THE REMATCH!

-

KEY

The former Red missed a couple of brilliant chances in the Capital One Cup final at Wembley on Sunday.

And it seemed as though the loud boos that greeted his every touch was affecting the 21-year-old.

He was even accosted by an irate Liverpool fan during a private function after the match at Wembley.

But Sterling is the first name on Pellegrini’s teamsheet for the Premier League visit to Anfield tonight.

The boss said: “I don’t know at the moment what the starting XI will be at Anfield, but one player I am sure will start is Raheem Sterling. It’s important for him to play under pressure.

“I think all big players must play under pressure.

“It doesn’t matter where they play or whom they play against when they play.

“I have 100 per cent trust in Raheem.

“He will play tomorrow and I am sure he will be an important player in the game.

“He is a young man, a young player, starting out in his career, he knows how to fight with the pres- sure. He will receive the same treatment when he arrives at Anfield, but I am absolutely sure he can play without any problem and he will be a very important player as he was in the last game.”

Pellegrini expects Liverpool to be desperate for instant revenge — and a win that would spell trouble for City’s title challenge.

He might have to head up the M62 without Yaya Toure, who picked up a knock at Wembley, while Joe Hart will be back in goal despite Willy Caballero’s penalty shoot-out heroics on Sunday. Pellegrini added: “I can’t be sure how Liverpool will react — whether they see it as revenge.

“It will be a big game for both teams.”

And the Chilean knows a win is vital to keep pace with Leicester and Spurs at the top of the table.

He added: “It’s very important to win three points.

“We’ll fight until the end of the season. At the moment I understand why we are not favourites to win the title.”
