Wayne, you let me down!

SO on Sun­day night I got dolled up and went to The Savoy, with the gor­geous Lucy Zara, for the Sports Writer’s As­so­ci­a­tion Gala where Wayne Rooney was be­ing hon­oured with the Trib­ute Award.

It was so nice to sit and lis­ten to ev­ery­one’s sto­ries about him and how much he does for char­ity.

And as the mother of a child with dis­abil­i­ties, those words re­ally hit home for me.

My son Luca is a huge Manch­ester United fan and Rooney is his favourite player. I’d even had to prom­ise him that I would bring home a photo of Rooney from the night.

We queued up with ev­ery­one else, but when we got to the front Rooney’s agent turned us away – twice!

For me, as a mum, I just felt gut­ted that my lit­tle boy would have to miss out – es­pe­cially as I sus­pected it was be­cause of who I am and what I’ve cho­sen to do with my life.

I wasn’t there as Linsey Dawn McKen­zie the glam­our model, I was there as a mum en­joy­ing a night out with her mates.

It broke my heart to have to tell Luca the bad news. I just feel so A FEW months back I told you all that I’d been film­ing with Chan­nel 5.

And I can fi­nally re­veal that it was for an episode of

My episode is due to air at the start of Fe­bru­ary, so watch this space! dis­ap­pointed that Wayne, as a par­ent him­self, couldn’t find it in his heart to do this for my lit­tle boy.

I could maybe un­der­stand if it had been in a club, where a photo of Wayne with a glam­our model could have been mis­con­strued, but there were hun­dreds of peo­ple there, at a pub­lic event, who were all granted pho­tos with him.
