DOCTOR Who’s latest companion Pearl Mackie has confirmed her character will be a LESBIAN.

The rumour mill has gone into overdrive over who will be the next Time Lord after Peter Capaldi goes but it’s the Doctor’s new sidekick who will really get tongues wagging.

Actress Pearl, 29, landed the role as Bill in the BBC sci-fi show and she revealed her character will be gay.

She said: “Yeah, Bill’s gay and I think it shouldn’t be a big deal in the 21st Century really. People are gay, people are black, there are also aliens in the world you know, so watch out for them.”

Pearl’s character was announced a year ago, during half-time of the FA Cup semi-final, but it’s only now that her sexuality has been revealed.

However, Pearl won’t be the first on-screen lesbian and we doubt the Beeb will have her in steamy scenes like these.

Orange Is The New Black is set in a prison which is home to tons of hot girls who often get down and dirty with each other to pass the time. Lead actress Taylor Schilling, 32, has enjoyed onscreen rugmunching lots of times during the four seasons of the Netflix comedy drama.

That said, there aren’t many shows which can top The L Word for the number of saucy lesbian sex scenes.

And British soaps have got in on the act with the likes of Corries’ Brooke Vincent and Sophie Jenna snogging.
