BAKE OFF bungler Prue Leith said sorry yesterday after she accidentally let slip that Sophie Faldo had won the final 12 hours before it was shown on TV.
The celebrity cook, who took over from national treasure Mary Berry when the show moved from the BBC, said: “I f**ked up!”
An upset-sounding Leith said: “I’m in Bhutan. The time difference is massive.
“I thought that they got it six hours ago. I’m in too much of a state to talk about it. “I f**ked up.” The judge tweeted in anticipation of tonight’s Channel 4 finale: “No-one told me judging a GBBO final would be so emotional. I wanted them all to win. Bravo Sophie.”
It was the latest setback for the show after claims that the winner was under investigation for benefit fraud.
Former Army officer Sophie, 33, is alleged to have claimed a single person’s allowance despite living with her chef boyfriend David Slattery in Surrey.
She strongly denies the claims.
The tweet was later removed.
Fans of the show went into a frenzy and reacted to the explosive tweet with a series of memes, many depicting a gloating Mary Berry enjoying the moment.
A media insider said: “It’s a disaster. Not only did Prue ruin the final show for so many but the winner turns out to be under investigation for benefits fraud.
“It’s pure Channel 4.”
