NINE chopped-up corpses have been found stuffed into cool boxes inside a serial killer’s flat after neighbours reported a “nasty smell like sewage”.

Authorities made the grisly discovery after investigating the disappearance of a 23-year-old woman who was allegedly last seen walking with the suspected killer, Takahiro Shiraishi, on October 21.

The woman, who has since been identified as one of the nine victims, was allegedly spotted with Shiraishi near his apartment in the Japanese city of Zama, south of Tokyo.

One resident said: “I thought it smelled like sewage. It was something I never smelled before.”

Another neighbour claimed he’d become aware of a “nasty smell” coming from the apartment from as early as August.

A saw was also found in the room, along with bodies now identified as eight women and one man.

Numerous reports claim Shiraishi – who was arrested on Tuesday – and the 23-year-old woman met on a website for people with suicidal feelings.

The woman is said to have posted she was “looking for someone to commit suicide with me”.

Security footage is believed to show the woman with Shiraishi walking around two train stations.

The victim’s brother, who reported her missing on October 24 after not hearing from her for a few days, discovered she had been talking to the suspect on Twitter.

He alerted the police, who later swooped on the Zama apartment.

Police found two severed heads in cool boxes covered with cat litter near the front door of the flat.

They later discovered parts of seven more bodies.

Cops have started the exhaustive process of DNA testing in an effort to identify the rest of the deceased.

The suspect had reportedly moved into the apartment, located close to a nursery and a busy train station, in late August.

Japanese authorities are preparing to CRIME SCENE: Suspect’s flat formally charge him after he was originally arrested on suspicion of discarding a corpse.

A spokesman for Japan’s National Police Agency declined to confirm the reports, saying nothing had been officially announced.
