What commentator told female ref... YOU SHOULD BE HOME DOING THE IRONING, LUV!

-

A FOOTIE commentator at a radio station made famous by comic Peter Kay has been BANNED from his local club after making sexist remarks about a top female referee.

Ian Livesey, 36, is in the middle of a sexism row after reportedly shouting: “You should be at home doing the ironing, love,” at Rebecca Welch during a game between Chorley FC and Boston United.

The disparaging off-air comment was overheard by a female fan who then reported Mr Livesey to club officials at Chorley.

Fans criticised the ref for her decision to send off one of their players in the dying minutes of the game, but when Mr Livesey shouted out, many thought he had crossed a line.

The life-long fan has since been banned from attending games by Chorley – nicknamed the Magpies – while they investigate.

Mr Livesey has also cancelled his regular football commentary MagpiesLive which was broadcast on the 102.8 Chorley FM radio station on match days.

The station, created by volunteers back in 2001, has regularly been referred to in Peter Kay’s hit comedy TV series Phoenix Nights.

Kay’s catchphrases for the station include: “Chorley FM – coming in your ears”.

The station yesterday confirmed it suspended Mr Livesey pending a full investigation.

Ms Welch is one of the FA’s most experienced female officials and refereed the Women’s FA Cup Final at Wembley last May.
