Train sex abuse woman punched

A WOMAN who was sexually assaulted on a train was punched in the face when she slapped the man responsibl­e, police have said.

The incident happened last Thursday after the 30-year-old victim boarded the 6.30pm Newcastle to Edinburgh Waverley service.

She was unable to find a seat on the train and stood next to a group of men who she had been chatting to at Newcastle station before boarding.

During the journey said one of the men sexually assaulted her.

In response the victim slapped him and the man retaliated by punching her on the jaw.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “Detectives are keen to speak with anyone who was on board this train and may have seen what happened. Any piece of informatio­n, however small, could prove vital.”

They then went to a children’s play area where the officer allegedly forced the teenage to perform oral sex, Wood Green Crown Court heard.

Describing the girl’s police interview the prosecutor told jurors the girl’s father had been “reassured to let his daughter go on the date, even more so as Adam (Provan) was a serving police officer.”

He continued: She will tell you that she told Mr Provan he would have to meet her dad before going on a date because he is older than her.

“Provan appeared reluctant at first, but accepted after a couple of days.

“You will hear that Mr Provan, the police officer, had told her he was 22.
