A GOLFER appeared in court accused of biting off another man’s FINGER during a fight.

Derek Harkins, 46, pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and battery, mayhem and disturbing the peace over the incident.

It happened at the Southers Marsh Golf Club in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Harkins (above) reportedly got into a fight with the other golfer, 57, and bit off part of his left index finger.

When firefighters arrived, they found the victim lying down by the main entrance.

His finger had been bitten off to his knuckle and the rest was on ice.

He was taken to hospital but doctors couldn’t surgically reattach the finger.

Harkins was released on £7,500 bail and ordered to stay away from both the victim and alcohol.

After appearing in court, Harkins’ lawyer said “things aren’t always as they seem”.
