Addict off hook – thanks to ‘high on meth’ expert
A METH addict has had a conviction for possession quashed by a judge – because a witness was high on the drug when he gave evidence. James Bachtell
39, was arrested after police found meth residue in a glass pipe in his pocket.
Derrick Thrush, a forensic chemist, testified at Bachtell’s trial.
But Montana’s Cascade County Attorney told Bachtell’s lawyer two days after his conviction that Thrush ingested meth before the trial and a judge ruled that Thrush impeded Bachtell’s right to a fair trial.
