Cops stick granny in man’s jail
A GRANNY suffered “a serious indignity” when police arrested her as a MAN and was forced to spend 10 hours in a male jail surrounded by leering inmates.
Fior Pichardo de Veloz’s shame was compounded when a judge threw out her lawsuit for negligence.
But an appeals court has now reinstated her claim against the jail doctor and nurse who insisted officers book in Pichardo ( above) as a man – even though a strip search had shown she was a woman.
A judge said: “Every reasonable prison officer and medical personnel would have known that wrongfully misclassifying a biological female as a male inmate and placing that female in the male population of a detention facility was unlawful.”
The decision means that she can now pursue for compo.
A lawyer for Pichardo, 62, in Miami, Florida, said “we are pleased” with the court’s decision.
