Midweek Sport - - FRONT PAGE -

’TIS the season for... an all-out BRAWL in the street!

Cops had to be called to separate a gang of 20 fighting SANTAS after a row over street pitches got out of control.

The fracas, which left children crying, happened in New York, where Father Christmases on main shopping streets charge parents $5-a-time to pose for pictures with their children.

The big money earner – some Santas earn up to $1,000-a-day – is run by two rival companies who provide all the costumes and take a cut of their earnings.

Wounding

But a row between the companies escalated into a huge fight that left three Santas in hospital and two more arrested.

One of the Father Christmases has been charged with wounding and faces spending the holiday period in jail.

A police source said: “This is a cut-throat business and there certainly isn’t much good will involved.

“We had to send twelve officers to break up the fight.

“There were children watching who burst into tears. It was awful.”
