A school spokesman said putting John Carver, 56, on leave will al­low of­fi­cials to in­ves­ti­gate what hap­pened.

Mo­bile phone footage sur­faced over the week­end of the stu­dents singing, “KKK, KKK, Let’s kill all the blacks,” in class at Dover High School in Dover, New Hamp­shire.

In a let­ter to par­ents, the school said the in­ci­dent was part of a class as­sign­ment about the Re­con­struc­tion pe­riod in Amer­i­can his­tory.

Carver has not re­sponded to re­quests for com­ment.

The pres­i­dent of the Dover Teach­ers’ Union says they are work­ing with school of­fi­cials to de­ter­mine the facts.
