Court hears beast slashed serial killer Tobin
A MONSTER convicted of sexually attacking a teen girl at knifepoint is already serving a life sentence for two rapes, a jury heard yesterday.
Sean Moynihan, 34, tried to rape the 15-year-old schoolgirl in Paisley in 2008, the High Court at Livingston was told.
He threatened to kill her after dragging her into bushes near a cycle path and tearing off her clothing.
The unnamed girl said she was too shy to tell police about the rape attempt at the time because her mother was present when detectives interviewed her.
She finally revealed full details about the terrifying ordeal in 2016 after prosecutors re-opened the case.
The Crown got new evidence that DNA from the jeans the teenager was wearing was a one in a billion match for Moynihan’s profile, the jury was told.
By that time the sex beast had been convicted of raping a 16-year-old girl who mistook his black Skoda Octavia for a private hire taxi after a night out.
He took her to a layby in Paisley and raped her in the back seat of his car before then driving her home.
Moynihan was jailed for four years in 2009 for the taxi rape but after being released raped another young woman on the same cycle track in October 2014.
Armed with a “rape kit” – including a knife and condoms – Moynihan ordered his 18-year-old victim to strip before forcing her into sex.
For that attack he was made subject to a lifelong restriction order, which means MORE PORRIDGE: Sean Moynihan he may never be freed from prison. The court was told that since his sentencing for the second rape in 2015, Moynihan has been jailed for 32 months for slashing serial killer Peter Tobin ( left) in HMP Edinburgh. He was also given a six-month sentence for hitting a fellow inmate with a metal bar in Barlinnie jail, Glasgow.
Judge Lord Woolman said Moynihan, who is currently a prisoner at HMP Glenochil in Clackmannanshire, had carried out a “chilling crime” by attacking the teenagerin the cycle path in 2008.
Moynihan was handed nine years in prison and will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely.
