‘I needed vodka to strip for Thrones’
GAME of Thrones star Emilia Clarke says she needed “vodka and flattering lighting” to strip naked on set.
The actress, 32, made the shock confession when talking about her memorable scene in GoT in which her character Daenerys Targaryen is seen walking through fire completely starkers.
She said: “It was just a wonderful, strong moment I wanted to own – a real empowering, girl-power scene.
“I was so thrilled with it. It’s not a sexy scene – she’s not naked for no reason, it’s not gratuitous.
“She’s naked because she has just destroyed her enemies in this almighty blaze after they foolishly underestimated her.
“She played her trump card – how could I say no?
“All I needed was vodka, some flattering lighting and I was ready!”
Surgery
The revelation came after Emilia admitted she couldn’t even look at herself after having brain surgery to remove two aneurysms.
The Me Before You star credited the life-changing experience to a shift in her view of herself and beauty.
Speaking to Stylist mag, Emilia discussed how much of a toll the operations took on not only her health but her self-confidence.
She added: “After my operations, I didn’t want to look at my own face.
“I don’t normally, but all my emotions were heightened.”
