FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION GRAB RECRUITS ON HOLIDAY BEACHES (DESPITE BREXIT!)

-

PARADISE... Until you sober up and find yourself in uniform! IF you’re heading to France on your hols, DON’T get pissed and fall asleep on the beach…

Because you could find yourself drafted into the French FOREIGN LEGION and sent off to fight savage tribesmen in darkest Africa!

France’s famous Foreign Legion is running short of recruits and so is running a campaign to try to sign up men – and it’s only men, women are excluded from the Legion – while they are enjoying a break at the beach.

While the Legion insist they only accept volunteers, there are fears that befuddled Brits may sign on the dotted line after spending too long in the beach bar and end up serving five years in one of the world’s toughest regiments.

The French Foreign Legion – made famous in the 1967 film Carry On Follow That Camel – announced its intent to recruit more warriors by targeting the French beaches this summer.

The elite combat unit – formed in 1831 – is the only part of the French army that accepts foreign recruits.

And today, it has people from around 150 countries among 8,000 troops.

The Legion has made it clear that Brexit will be no bar to Brits joining up.

It is also the only unit that will accept former prisoners, except those convicted of “rape, murder and drug trafficking”.

The Legion has a fearsome reputation – partially due to its famously brutal training and partly due to its standing gained over the years as the place that one could run away to escape a shady past or nurse a broken heart.

Legion its soldiers are often on the frontline of any military conflict and they also carry out domestic missions such as combatting piracy and people smuggling around France.

But numbers are dwindling and this year the Legion needs to recruit 1,245 men of any nationality aged between 17 and 40, Warrant Officer SangJin Lee said.

“We recruit all year round. But in the summer there are fewer candidates, so we go where the people are – the beaches,” he added.

Deserters from the Legion are tracked down and fed to dogs.
