Its already time to be thinking of fireworks fun
ICAN’T quite believe we’re into the last full week of September. Time is well and truly flying by. There’s one word you’ll be hearing a lot in Southport over the coming days and that word is fireworks!!
I love this time of year, when the British Musical Firework Championships take place.
We had great fun last week, giving away a family pass a day as part of our competition ‘Snap, Crackle Or Not’ on the Breakfast Show with Brent.
We asked a different listener each day to work out if the firework name we were describing was a real firework or not.
For instance ‘A Catherine Wheel’ is, where as a ‘George In The Box’ isn’t.
It was great fun and we had a good laugh with our listeners. Well done to all our winners. After all that excitement, Brent is having a well deserved couple of weeks off from the Breakfast Show.
He’s off to find some warm sunshine, so the Breakfast Show is in the very capable hands of Dave Turley for the next few weeks.
Dave is with you every Saturday from 10am and over the years has never been a stranger to radio in Southport.
Just watch out for the odd joke too!
Paul Jordan was back on our television screens the other night too, with an old episode of Top Of The Pops from 1986.
He hasn’t changed much .... well...apart from his hair colour (sorry Paul).
You can hear Paul, every Sunday from 1pm for his ‘Solid Gold Sunday’ programme with a great selection of music from the 60s, 70s and the 80s.
It was a pleasure to be joined on-air by a good friend of the radio station, Yvonne Burns, who is the centre manager at Wayfarers Arcade.
It’s great to see lots of new businesses opening in the arcade and next week they celebrate their 120th birthday. When we started out, nearly three years ago, we had the pleasure of having Wayfarers as our temporary home. It’s a magnificent place and a true jewel in Southport’s crown. Don’t forget you can join me Weekdays from 4pm and you can listen to us on your DAB+ digital radio, mobile apps, smart device speakers and online via www. sandgrounderradio.co.uk
