MP backs business rates call

MP Damien Moore has backed the British Independent Retailers Association in their call for a big change to business rates.

The proposals, recently unveiled in Parliament, include replacing the current £12,000 threshold with new allowances for businesses.

If the government adopted BIRA’s recommendations, they could save nearly £3bn.

Damien, who was a senior manager in the retail industry before being elected as Southport’s MP, said it pays more in business rates than any other sector.

“The current system places unnecessary barriers on our town’s businesses.

“I hope to persuade the government to adopt BIRA’s game-changing proposals.”
