Rotary Round-up

Midweek Visiter - - Rotary Round-up -

THE Rotary Club of Formby recently held its 51st Charter Night.

This event is held annually to mark the Club’s Charter being granted.

This year the Club has been in existence for 51 years.

The Club’s President, Alan Gibson and his wife, Viv, welcomed their guests. Once again the Club attended a dinner at West Lancs Golf Club which was excellent.

The District Governor, Steve Martin with his wife Maria, was in attendance and he gave a short speech to the guests. Once the speeches were done and dusted guests were treated to an entertainment from Ian Clark.

He is a local raconteur, songwriter and musician.

He kept his audience amused with funny stories and some of the songs he has written.

It was a very enjoyable evening and the Club’s thanks go to the staff at West Lancs Golf Club for their excellent service.

New Rotary Clubs are springing up all over the area.

The latest one is in West Kirby and their First Charter is being celebrated in a very different way.

The way the Club runs is dictated by its members whilst still being within the Rotary ethos.

District Governor Steve Martin and his wife will be attending this Charter Night.

All Rotarians and the community are pleased to have a presence again in this area.

Rotary is so embedded in its community and help and working together is needed now more than ever.

It is just an organisation of people who want to help and give something back to the local community and around the world whilst having fun and meeting new people.

Southport Rotary Club this week welcomed back their Rotary Young Leader Award candidate Lewis Christie aged 17 years.

He entertained the Club with an excellent presentation of his experience at Arthog Outward Bound Centre in Wales.

This week is World Polio Day October 24 and the Southport Rotary Club is holding a World Greatest Meal event and all proceeds will go to the” End Polio Now “campaign.

The money raised will be tripled through the Bill Gates Foundation.
