Stop and search – the top ten locations across Sefton
YOU are more likely to be stopped and searched by police in Litherland than any other part of Sefton, according to recent figures.
Between May 1-July 31 this year, officers conducted 767 stop and searches in the borough.
A police officer has the power to stop and search you if they have reasonable grounds to suspect that you are carrying: illegal drugs a weapon stolen property something that could be used to commit a crime e.g a crowbar.
The grounds the police officer must have should be based on facts, information or intelligence or could be because of the way you are behaving.
Most of the searches in Sefton during this three-month period were conducted in the south of the borough.

Howard Close (Litherland) - 16
Daniel Close (Litherland) - 15
Thornton Road (Bootle) - 11

The vicinity of Silcock’s Funland and Southport Pier - six
London Street (Southport) - five
Information on Merseyside Police’s website suggests there are 35 police officers who cover South Sefton (Bootle, Seaforth, Litherland, Crosby, Blundellsands, Thornton, Maghull, Netherton and Melling) and 26 who cover North Sefton (Southport, Birkdale, Ainsdale, Formby and Hightown).
