ACROSBY mum who lost her parents just seven weeks apart is inviting people to a gala ball to help her raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Julie Lawson, who is mum to two sons, Andrew and Neil, and nana to Beatrice, has organised the event on Saturday, November 17 at the British Music Experience Cunard Building in Liverpool and is encouraging people to unite against dementia and buy a ticket.

Julie, who works for HMRC, lost her parents, Joan and Jack Platt, seven weeks apart in 2014.

Her dad had Alzheimer’s for 11 years and her mum had mixed dementia for three years.

Since then, she has fundraised tirelessly for the Alzheimer’s Society and has raised thousands of pounds in their memory.

Julie said: “My dream was to hold an Alzheimer’s Society Gala Ball in an iconic building.

“Lawrence Kenwright, from Signature Living, generously gave me The Cunard Building, one of the Three Graces on our beautiful waterfront, so I am very excited to be holding it there. We also have special guests Nick and Royston, from Housewives of Cheshire, coming to the ball.

“Tickets are £99 and this will include drinks on arrival sponsored by Frameline Ltd at 6.30pm, followed by a three-course meal with wine.

“The theme is rolling back the years and we will be doing this musically with Liverpool’s Wack Pack, The Rockabellas, The Liverbird Victoria Jones and the fabulous Jersey Boys.

“There will also be a raffle and auction with table gifts provided by Electric Hair at Harvey Nichols in Liverpool.

“The main sponsors of the evening are Signature and Bulk Cargo. Red Rum Club will be providing the entertainment.

“It’s great to think that I will be raising funds to help support people living with dementia now and to fund research to one day find a cure for dementia.” Julie was invited to a Royal Garden Party last year, hosted by Her Majesty the Queen for services to fundraising.

This year, she was nominated for Merseyside Woman of the Year and the Liverpool ECHO awards where she was a finalist and runner-up.
