A POLICE officer was attacked and bitten on the hand in a Bootle street.

A video shows a man charging at the officer, wrestling with him and then throwing a barrage of punches.

The officer was taken to hospital after the attack.

The incident happened in Hero Street, Bootle.

The clip – shared widely on social media – begins with a man charging at the officer in the street. The officer appears to use a baton to defend himself, and is then slammed up against a parked car.

A member of the public then attempts to intervene, and tries to pull the attacker off the police officer. The attacker then throws punches at the officer, who staggers back.

At this point, police support arrives, and the attacker is apprehended.
