KASSERINE PASS
FEBRUARY 20, 1943
The Battle of Kasserine Pass was a series of engagements in the Tunisia Campaign of World War II that took place throughout February. Field Marshal Erwin Rommel’s Afrika Korps with elements of the Italian Centauro Armoured Division broke through American lines at Kasserine Pass as inexperienced U.S. Troops from the II Corps under Major General Lloyd Fredendall lost their first major battle of World War II in Europe, with 201 killed and around three times that injured or missing along with 800 tanks and other lighter vehicles.
