CARTHAGE IN 15MM
◗ theplasticsoldiercompany.co.uk ◗ £35
A couple of months ago I covered some of the latest releases from Plastic Soldier Company in their boxed Pacto Starter Armies for their Mortem et Gloriam rules, specifically the Celtis and Imperial Romans. In their striving to offer a wide range of Ancients armies in 15mm in their Ultracast plastic (based on the metal Corvus Belli ranges) this month sees the release of a full boxed set: the Carthaginian Pacto Starter Army.
So what do you get for thirty five quid? Well, in short, quite a lot: three mounted generals; 30 African (with the majority in mail armour and a dozen in linen armour); 24 Gallic warriors; six Punic cavalry; another six Spanish cavalry and – finally – a dozen Numidian cavalry. All of the figures are in varied poses: for example there are nine different horse variants (both saddled and unbridled) for the different cavalry types and all of the riders are cast separately but – thankfully – they all have spears cast in their hands. Talking of which, those spears strike a nice balance between ‘thinness’ and usability.
Clean-up on my box was effectively zero and they are all good, sharp sculpts. £35 for 27 cavalry and 54 is excellent value and – based on the not unreasonable assumption of a cavalry figure costing twice that of a footslogger – is around 33p a figure. This is one of their best sets yet.
