SPACE DWARFS
◗ cpmodels.co.uk ◗ £2 - £8
CP Models have taken over a range of SF dwarves from Macrocosm (macrocosm. co.uk). Splitting ranges seems strange but Macrocosm have a selection of models of a similar SF style so – if Sci-fi ‘stunties’ and their Old Hammer ilk are your jam – you have, it seems, lots of choice.
Concentrating on the models that CP have sent me, they have a range of individual sculpts (all by Chris Nichols) for £2 each plus some three and four figure groups for £6 and £8 respectively. Commonality wise, they all have the same look and feel of those old school GW style SF dwarfs: 25mm tall and mounted on slot bases (some circular MDF ones are supplied), they follow the ‘characterful’ nolegs approach (as I used to call it decades ago): so that’s boots on the bottom of a big body surmounted by an even bigger head. All of this is accompanied, of course, by impressive beards and fairly large weaponry (though it’s actually quite restrained for models of this style).
So we have a Space Dwarf Commander with pistols drawn; Space Dwarf with rifle and power claw (for range or close combat); and a Space Dwarf with heavy weapon, (a medium machine-cannon type of thing). The four pack has the same three plus another rifleman to make four figures but the three figure pack – Space Dwarfs advancing with rifles for £6 – has three different sculpts, two (as per the title) with rifles or a bloke with two pistols.
Other aesthetics include a preponderance of helmets with visors (no eye painting!) and body armour. They represent (and this sounds bizarre, I’m sure) a‘traditional’look to SF straight out of the‘80s which many gamers will find very appealing.
