Wargames Atlantic sent a box of Prussian Reserve – 1813 to 1815 and they seem to be an interesting approach which I’ve not seen from this manufacturer. Rather than a box of large sprues, each with lots of options, the box contains ten smaller

sprues with each figure moulded almost complete. That means fast assembly and quick to the painting bench: the figures only require the attachment of a pack roll and a head and... you’re done!

The thing is that each sprue has six marching models in slightly different poses which make up into a fine ‘contiguous’ marching unit. What’s more, those of you gifted with an abacus can work out that ten sprues with six on each sprue is... yes 60 models in a box for twenty five quid. That’s impressive!

Useful throughout the later Napoleonic war period (or the Befreiungskriege, or War of Liberation as the Prussians would have it), over 40 reserve battalions were formed and organized into a dozen Reserve Infantry Regiments so your games are gonna need a few figures and – at under 42p a figure – that can be achieved with this ‘Army Builder’ box at minimal cost.

For a bit of variation you can equip the models with a choice of either a covered shako or the Schirmütz (peaked cap). The head can be positioned with a degree of lateral movement which will add to things but – obviously – these are ‘rank and file’ soldiers: literally. Sure, you will have to provide command figures from elsewhere – probably in metal – but that’s a small inconvenience, I think. Great sculpts and recommended.
