Wargames Atlantic sent a box I’ve been waiting a long time for. Well, not quite ‘for ever’ but I’ve certainly been looking forward to them! In one word: Lizardmen.

This hard plastic box builds into 24 Lizardmen based on three different (but all ‘advancing’) torsos. Each have separate arms (with four fingered hands), tails and heads, and the latter come in three styles with enough for all of the models: there’s a smooth, almost snake like, head; a slightly more aggressive and spiky lizard head with a central horn and – lastly – a modified version of the latter wearing a gas mask.

Other than going to Lizard Fetish Clubs, the latter head fits in well with an SF option as there are weapons provided to build your force in three ways. Firstly there’s the ‘traditional’ variant as a regular fantasy type with swords and spears. Then there’s a Victorian Science Fiction version armed with muskets or – as a final option – there’s a modern/SF take with some AK looking assault rifles. This is one superbly flexible box of tricks!

The assembled models are ‘human height’ in 28mm and the sprues have some extras (the odd bag, sword and spare AK magazine...) and the tails are both curled and straight to add variety. All the figures are unarmoured and – gas mask aside – in primitive clothing. Fit of parts is good and they go together well. These figures scream ‘the swamps of Venus’ at me but – with those three options – they are one of the most useful boxes have released (and I thought the Partisans they released last month were good!) Highly recommended.
