This paperback edition of Helion’s 2018 reprint of the original volume published in 1996 by The Emperor’s Press covers the period from August to 31st December 1813, and includes the battle of Hanau and the siege of Danzig as well as the earlier actions around Leipzig.

Fifteen monochrome maps are distributed throughout the text. Twenty-one colour maps are bound into the centre of the book, some of which occupy two facing pages but are divided into two separate plates with white borders, so that no information is lost in the central binding – a feature some other military history publishers would do well to emulate! Over fifty illustrations, mainly monochrome reproductions of battle scenes, also enliven the text.

There are thirty-four pages of orders of battle and twenty-three pages of endnotes. A six-page bibliography and an index conclude the book.

The book is not light reading but wargamers particularly interested in this campaign and battle who desire a more detailed account of the opposing armies’ manoeuvres than can be found in the Osprey Campaign title on Leipzig, and orders of battle at different stages of the operations, will appreciate this reprint of George Nafziger’s extensive research.
