Modiphius sent in the latest two boxes of Fallout Wasteland Warfare miniatures: the NCR and Caesar’s Legion core boxes. Each contain seven or eight miniatures cast in very pale grey resin. All are around 34mm in height (on average) and very proportionate: that means (almost) correctly sized weapons and‘right-sized’heads and so forth. All are kits with separate arms to stick on and each comes with a rather splendid scenic base that – frankly – requires no work except with a paint brush.

They aren’t all 34mm tall: the NCR box, for example, has seven models but one of them – the Heavy Trooper – is around 10mm taller than that in his power armour. The rest of the figures comprise a Veteran Ranger; two Patrol Rangers; and three Troopers and are of mixed genders and weaponry. The NCR (that’s New Californian Republic) have an interesting aesthetic with a mix of sub-MadMax body armour and ex-Law Enforcement, ‘Smokey the Bear’hats but it works well: poses are dynamic but very believable.

Caesar’s Legion are something else entirely. Led by a Centurion and a Decanus, this core set includes eight of the figures that look for all the world like mean versions of the guys that take coats at Caesar’s Palace in actual, real world Vegas: they are wearing another mix of post apocalypse outfits with imperial Roman overtones right down to the two leaders’crested helmets. Weaponry includes everything from shotguns to axes and the models include their commanders plus six others. Detail on all models is crisp and they’ll paint up a treat. If you find painting faces a problem, the Legion are all wearing masks which’ll help. Both boxes are £40 each and the Expansion Supplement – £30 – looks excellent too. Recommended.
