Podcasts for the discerning (but not that discerning) wargamer

- Words by Conrad Kinch

Need a wargaming podcast to keep you focussed as you paint figures? Mr Kinch has you covered.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a 21st century man with something to say, must be in want of a podcast. It is also a truth somewhat less likely to be acknowledged that just because someone has something to say - does not mean that it is worth listening to. In fact, if listening to wargaming and history podcasts for the last year has taught me anything it is that there is a surprisingly large amount of really good wargaming material and discussion out there, being produced by people for no other reason than sheer love of the hobby. There are certainly more good ones than I could include here.

I have purposefully not included any Games Workshop material on the basis that they are already well served (right behind you Mr Kinch. Ed.) and I have concentrated on historical wargaming and history in general on the grounds that that is where my main interest is. I’ve also restricted myself to podcasts that I have actually listened to - sometimes at some length. There are no second hand recommendations here.

If I haven’t included your podcast, it is no reflection on the quality or otherwise, it’s just that the Good Lord only gave me two ears and there is a hard limit on how much audio I can actually listen to!

Editor’s note: it’s worth me pointing out that – although some of Mr Kinch’s recommendations are from Apple – you do not need an Apple account or iTunes to listen to them. As I can attest! Ed.
