THE NAPOLEONICIST

The Napoleonicist is – as the name suggests – a podcast about the Napoleonic period
hosted by historian Zak White. White’s speciality is the British Army in the Peninsular War, particularly how discipline and court martials were handled, but the podcast itself covers a lot of ground outside that frame. Some episodes, mainly the early ones, are White talking about his own area of expertise and very good they are too - I particularly recommend the episode on the sacking of Badajoz. However, since the podcast has matured, he has started doing more interviews and he really shines as an interviewer. The interview with
Josh Provan on his recent book on the Mahratta Wars: Bullocks, Grain and Good Madeira is an excellent primer on the subject. Others are less serious, like panel episodes where historians debate questions like “What is the greatest novel depicting the Napoleonic period” or “What was the greatest invention of the Napoleonic period”. I found those a lot of fun, but probably not as informative.
