BATTLECHAT WITH HENRY HYDE

Henry Hyde, late of this parish, runs an excellent podcast series called Battlechat. The podcast covers wargaming and related subjects in some depth, through the medium of interviews. Henry has a voice for radio and is a congenial host, well suited to drawing out his guests and what a diverse bunch they are. They range from wargames guru’s like Rick Priestley (Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, Black Powder, Bolt Action, etc), specialist manufacturer’s like Annie Norman of Bad Squiddo and artists like Peter Dennis (Osprey, Helion and his own delightful range of Paper Soldiers).

Some listeners may be put off by Henry’s discursive style and the podcasts can run to about ninety minutes, but others like that for long painting sessions. The podcast is supported by Henry’s Patreon, but while contributors get access to additional Q&A sessions and early access, the podcasts themselves are available to everyone. You don’t have to support the podcast to listen to them, but there are little extras available to those who do.

There is an awful lot of talent on Henry’s show (I’ve even been on it myself! Ed.), but I think the early episode with Dan Mersey (author of the Lion Rampant series of games) is particularly special. It was fascinating to hear Henry draw the author out on his approach to game design and what he looked for in a wargame.
