FIREPOWER WARGAMING

This is a bit of cheat as
Firepower Wargaming isn’t actually a podcast per se, but a YouTube channel that works a bit like a Podcast. Andrew has been running the Firepower blog for a while, but the YouTube channel is something of a newcomer. There are a number of a short videos about painting, new projects and other aspects of the hobby, but where Firepower Wargaming really shines is the discussion episodes. I was first attracted to Firepower Wargaming by one of these, an interview Andrew did with Captain Tom Egan, an senior instructor in the Defence Forces College in Ireland. Captain Egan is not only a soldier by profession, but also a professional wargamer, as he teaches and battle tactics at the brigade level and below, while also enjoying a mean game of Space Hulk.
While Andrew and Tom cover a lot of wargaming ground, I found this talk especially interesting because it illustrated the differences between ‘professional wargaming’ (wargame as training tool) and ‘hobby wargaming’ (wargame as entertainment) as well as the overlap. Also worth listening to are an hour long discussion of Kriegspiel with Andy Crowe and Mentioned in Despatches, a regular segment, the first of which covers how exactly should one approach new projects. This is one to watch.
