This book is subtitled: The Royal Navy’s Anti-Submarine Campaign in the Falklands/Malvinas War and before the reader takes exception to that they should note that Sciaroni is Argentinian. It’s an indication of the balance of this book that the UN definition of both the English and Spanish version of the name is used to avoid partisan debate. This is reflected in the care with which this book has been written.
It is a fascinating account of the antisubmarine war in and around the Falkland Islands covering everything from policy to tactical engagements, sometimes against marine life! It reviews the Argentinian submarines, the British escorts against which they were pitted and the weapons system available. It examines training levels, the planning of operations and gives a chronological and detailed account of engagements. It is well illustrated with photographs and maps.
This is an interesting study of a specific aspect of the Falklands War which was of considerable concern to the Royal Navy at the time. It is strongly recommended for the general reader, those with an interest in the Falklands and the expert alike. It is a great, well balanced, book.
