BEATING THE ANVIL

Anvil Industries sent in a bunch of their new models for a try out and I assembled a few of the Drop Troops Wave 2: their latest releases.

Anvil make a range of useful resin models for a small selection of genres – including 1/64th scale modifying parts for Gasland and their ilk (engines and guns plus other doodads for sticking on Hot Wheels and

Matchbox die-casts) – but their ‘bread and butter’has to be ‘heroic 28mm scale’ sci-fi. The Drop Troops are designed as elite fighters, scaled to be normal humans in the big, beefy kind of way that goes down well in a grim dark future. They are clad in exo-skeleton power armour, usually with helmets, where appropriate, although the female troopers often wear a little... less armour: not‘combat scanties’, but just enough less that their sex could be apparent.

The new models are part of Anvil’s Regiments range and are fully modular, and compatible with all of their other models. Mine came in kit form on sprues with either separate arms with a gun to stick on, or – sometimes – a pair of arms wrapped around a weapon. They also have a pair of legs as a single piece plus a torso to stick together and then a separate head, backpacks and other accoutrements and this all went together very well with superglue. Resin is fine, light grey and flawless which is really what you want on a model like this. Prices are £16 for 5 figures however – for slightly more cash – they also make a selection of hero figures to lead or enhance your squad: heavy weapons, command teams and medics: that sort of thing. Recommended, especially if you are not wedded to one particular manufacturer and fancy a bit of a change...
