This, as the title states, is a book on modelling naval ships although the scales are not necessarily small in terms of physical size when talking about 1/350th scale! It reviews the available ship scales noting that the most popular scale is 1/700th although there are increasing numbers of models in the 1/350th scale. There is a great review of production techniques covering injection plastic, resin and 3D printing followed by a useful chapter on modelling tools. This latter can be applied to all models not just ships and compliments chapters on painting, weathering and displaying the models.
The book takes the reader through constructing a basic 1/700th scale model of the Type 45 HMS Daring and then on constructing a 1/350th scale resin model of a River Class frigate. Unsurprisingly there are different techniques required. Further chapters include upgrading kits with aftermarket items and etched brass pieces and an advanced modelling project.
This is a great modelling book with techniques applicable to all modelling. It is inspirational, would make an agreeable present and is strongly recommended both for the general interested reader, the collector and the modelling enthusiast.
