MONOCHROMATIC PAINT

Painting started with an all over basecoat of purple. Yes purple. Next I scrubbed on a purple/ black mix and then a nearly pure black highlight. Prior to going any further I varnished the monolith with a satin varnish (mixed from matt and gloss varnish), before adding highlights with just gloss varnish.

The edge highlights were built up over a forest green base, a mid highlight of lime green and a final highlight of lime green mixed with yellow. The final effect was done by using the edge of the brush bristles and – although subtle – does add to the stark squaredoff edges of the simple monolith.
