GROUND ZERO

Ground Zero Games have been a little lacking in recent months for new releases but I’m pleased to say that they finally have some new material out. Broadly this amounts updates in three areas: spaceships for Full Thrust; 15mm SF figures; and Game Tokens.

The Full Thrust ships are all smaller vessels for three different forces: UNSC Gunboats; NAC Gunboats; NAC Missile Boats; NSL Gunboats; and NSL Missile Boats. All of these are three quid a pack of three models, and each comes with a black plastic hex base and a with nifty one-piece, three-way, clear plastic flight stands to mount them on in a ‘Y’ shaped formation. The models themselves all have a winged, ‘Star-Warsie’ feel about them and each ship is pretty small – generally 10mm or so wide and a wee bit longer. They also come moulded on a sprue that means they can be painted en masse and then snapped off afterwards and added to the base which is clever.

The 15mm releases are mostly more from their ‘Crusties’ range. These look an awful lot like the ‘Prawns’ from the film District 9 and – as such – make for believable bipedal crustaceans for any game system. Latest releases include Heavy Weapons teams with Arc Cannons;

with Mortars; Heavy Weapons teams with Auto Grenade Launchers; with Plasma Cannons; with Multi Rocket Launchers;

and with AA/AT Missile Launchers.

Each pack comprises two teams of (whichever) weapons and crew and are £3.60 a pack. Some assembly is required for the heavy weapons themselves (typically a tripod base and, for example, elements like separate missiles and other doodads) but they make up into neat little bundles of joy. Throw another Crustie on the barbie! Oh – and in this scale – they have also released some small hover drones that are well worth investigating.

Finally, I mentioned in a Last Word recently about a set of rules Jon Tuffley of GZG was working on that I tested out (one using just measuring sticks and dice and almost no paperwork) which generated a fair amount of interest. Well – to go with that (and as they use the same colour/dice system as other rules GZG produces) GZG have some new coloured tokens out. Clearly printed on impressively thick MDF these would make any ‘Tuffleyverse’ game go smoother and – for £12 – are well worth getting a hold of some. Recommended.
