Moving home with the motorhome in mind

-

Well, here we are, lockdown number three (at the time of writing) and another chance to catch up with the reading.

Which is where I found Carol Kubicki’s saga of moving house with a motorhome (November 2020).

I and the much beloved found ourselves in exactly the same situation – moving to be nearer family. Searching started casually in the January when it was announced that the family were on the move and, “By the way, would you move also to be near us?”

Many searches and viewings ensued and the situation was ramped up when grandchild number two arrived in May and the family moved in July!

Following my daily online search, I happened upon a house that seemed perfect in every way and just one mile from the family. The only drawback was the drive could only take two family cars side by side – where was the 7m Swift Bolero going to live? My usual plan was to look down from above using Google Earth to make sure we didn’t back on to the local tip... or worse!

This showed that the front garden, which was hiding behind a fence and high hedges, was big enough for a double-decker bus.

We had already explained to the estate agent that we were looking for extra parking and he had obviously passed this little nugget onto the house owner. As we knocked on the door for our viewing (September by now), we were greeted with, “There’s no point coming in until you’ve seen the front garden, is there?” We sheepishly agreed.

It was indeed doable with the removal of the fence, some overgrown shrubs – including bamboo (oh, bliss and joy), and a small pond, and two hours later, after the viewing, our offer was accepted.

We have kept the high hedge as it screens most of the ’van from most of the road. Thank you, Google Earth.
